A RAINBOW KISS

This painting was composed by an Indigenous female Artist on her first attempt at painting with Gouache.  It was only her third formal artwork on canvas and for an individual with little training it shows superb talent in rendition of colours native to contemporary Aboriginal New Age art.  Inspiring in this work is the sequence of events that led Katherine Glass to perform this art without any knowledge or familiarisation of Aboriginal art.  Unlike her other works, this image portrays indigenous concepts which are clearly categorised with the Aboriginal dreamtime. 

 

The Australian landscape can be envisaged within this work piece and the colours relate to the vast composition of ferrous oxide and conglomerates contained within the mineral habitat of the soil.  The painting is readily recognised as Aboriginal art with intent of it being portrayed as contemporary and New Age – a truly magnificent piece which illustrates further the need to maintain Aboriginal sovereign governance when exposing Aboriginal works in art.

DEAD END'S MEET

It is known that in literature, a tragedy is one of the most popular genres. It always combines some story which discusses human sufferings with a certain sense of audience fulfilment. The roots of the tragedy are related to ancient Greece. A Greek tragedy is a sad story, which represents a character with a tragic flaw leading to his downfall. In capturing this photo, titled “Dead Ends Meet”, the photographer projected his current state in life where he fell from success experiencing catharsis.  The story just begins...

'SPIRIT LINES' – Andrew McDermott's Prints (the brother-in-law of one of our affiliates)

Andrew McDermott is an emerging artist from the inner west of Melbourne Australia. He loves to create automatic painting through the practice called Chromogenic Photogram.

Viewing Andrew's art opens many levels of perception, opening the creative possibility of what the viewer may see.

Over the 20 years, he has developed a unique painting practice. He creates watercolour paintings and scans them as you would a photographic colour negative. The finished art piece becomes a photographic print.

The original paintings are so tiny 8 x 5cm in size that the artist's brush marks have no influence over the details or the final subject matter. He is reliant on the whole artistic process for clarity and discovers the subject matter from within the automatic painting.

While chasing this art spirit, he discovers the hint of a face or a figure from the automatic painting were he crops a line. The cropped line is folded out revealing the whole vision of the artwork. The layering of faces and figures beyond the realms we usually perceive.

These artworks are not created by photoshop or any other program. Photoshop is required to clean, crop and adjust the lighting, such you would apply to a photographic negative.

Andrew respects the channelling received within his paintings only bringing out the intended message. He does not tamper with the purity of these visions.

From the absolute abstraction of form, light, tone and texture he channels primordial images from the archetypal world of symbolism and visions. Like the collective unconscious, he finds a different realm in each painting and he searches for the being that seeks to reclaims its rightful archetypal supremacy.

He seeks art from beyond the human eye, beyond the abstraction and beyond the known realms of artistic humanity.

'TOPSY-TURVYDOM' – Geun Cheol Jang's Prints (an extraordinary South Korean)

Geun Cheol Jang is a superbly talented artist whose talent at ‘Wisdom Association’ did not go unnoticed.  Representing his own style as a full-fledged art movement in itself, his photorealism evolved over the years from something expressed as social-fantasy realism to an expressionistic genre of new age photo-realism genre combined with a manga touch in movement.

 

Featuring just a short glimpse of his much anxiously awaited work here, Geun attempts to represent subject matter truthfully, with artificiality and not avoiding artistic conventions, whilst encompassing implausible, exotic and supernatural elements.

 

Realism has been prevalent in the arts at many periods, and is in large part a matter of technique and severe training, and the avoidance of stylization.  In Geun’s artworks, his visual arts, illusionistic realism becomes the accurate depiction of his characters, lifeforms, perspectives, and he pays meticulous detail to light and colour.  His surreal works of realism, combined with the demonic, emphasizes the mundane, ugly or sordid, and the beautiful and extraordinary.

 

Geun’s development of increasingly accurate representation of the visual appearances of things, and the imaginary, has correlation to the long history of art.   He includes elements such as the accurate depiction of the anatomy of humans and demons in an enhanced manner of perspective, all whilst paying close attention to the effects of distance and to the details of darkness, light, and colour.

 

Much of Geun’s art depicts ordinary alien creatures from what someone can only guess derive in thought from a different planar existence.  His art is simply FANTASTIC, and can be loosely defined as a mix of manga and formidable works of the westernised comic book genre of the West.  His works can be characterised by subject matter – which portrays realistic, mystical, mythical and folkloric subjects, often hinting at nightmarish personages.  In sum, his style renders him as an ideal graphic novel artist.
